The monastery of Batalha is the memorial building of the battle of Aljubarrota. It was sponsored by King D. João I and its construction began at the end of the 14th century. It’s one of the most important portuguese gothic monuments. Nowadays, its extensive facilities are an excellent example of the evolution of medieval architecture until the early 17th century. It's an “experience” that represents the transition between late Gothic and Manueline Style.
